WAYNE, N.J. Celeritek is exiting the cellular phone power amplifier market, announcing Thursday (Oct. 16) that it has sold its power amp group to RF developer Anadigics.
Celeritek is a long-time player in the power amplifier market and is known for its GaAs power amps for CDMA designs. However, with competition heating up in the cellphone power amp business, the company opted last month to exit the market to focus on delivering GaAs subsystems for the military market.
Anadigics already has a diverse portfolio of power amplifier products for the wireless handset market. Through the acquisition, it gains more offerings for the CDMA and wideband-CDMA handset markets as well as customers, including an unnamed tier-one handset OEM in Asia. The deal also provides Anadigics with Celeritek's intellectual property, key RF engineering personnel related to the product line and a UMTS reference design.
Once the acquisition is completed, Anadigics will establish a development center in Santa Clara, Calif. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
