WAYNE, N.J. Tundra Semiconductor has confirmed it is negotiating to buy Motorola's PowerPC host bridge product line, withdrawing an earlier statement that suggested the deal had been signed. The companies also said they are discussing collaborating on the development of next-generation interconnects for PowerPC architectures.
Motorola's host bridge line includes the MPC106 (to be called the Tsi106) and MPC107 (to be called the Tsi107). Both chips provide a bridge between a PCI bus and PowerPC host processors.
The PowerPC interface supports 64-bit data and 83 MHz while the PCI interface supports 32-bit data and a 33-MHz frequency. An internal memory controller is also provided that offers a 64-bit data bus with a frequency up to 66 MHz.
If the deal goes through, Tundra would begin marketing the Tsi106 and Tsi107 immediately. The companies did not release schedules for the launch of future interconnect products.
