TEMPE, Arizona --- By the end of 2006 the global market for digital subscriber loop (DSL) and cable modem equipment market will exceed $4 billion and the broadband-specific semiconductor market will exceed $800 million, according to a report from Forward Concepts Co.
Beginning in 2003, new equipment and chips incorporating the latest ADSL2, ADSL2+ and DOCSIS 2.0 standards will begin to have a significant impact on the market and on the services offerings from system operators, the company said.
The report says that the DSL and cable broadband systems base has grown from 14 million subscribers in 2000 to over 57 million in 2002.
Even though Forward Concepts predicts that growth rates will moderate, it still expects the number of DSL and cable broadband subscribers to exceed 192 million by the end of 2006. The report also projects that the resulting subscriber revenues will exceed $80 billion annually by 2006.
The 235-page report, 'Broadband in the Local Loop: Global Edition' is priced at $2,750.00 in North America. It includes analysis of the broadband markets in more than 50 countries, Forward Concepts said.
