A set of turbo codes has been released to boost transit performance in wireless LAN (WLAN) applications. Using these codes, an 802.11a system can be configured to perform up to 5 dB over traditional convolutional coding schemes. The result, according to the company, is an 802.11a system that can communicate at 36 Mbps up to 180 ft. (60 m).
