Netgear adapter handles dual 108-Mbit wireless streams
Wayne, N.J. Netgear released a Wi-Fi USB 2.0 adapter for laptops and PCs Thursday (Dec. 22) that can simultaneously handle two 108-Mbit streams.
Netgear's WG111U adapter supports both 802.11a and 802.11g operation. Like past WLAN designs, the USB adapter is developed around Atheros' WLAN chipset. This chipset includes an adaptive bandwidth technology, which can bond two channels to deliver 108-Mbit peak throughputs. Netgear will also provide a firmware upgrade for the system in the future to support Atheros' eXtended Range (XR) technology, which drops receive sensitivity down to -105-dBm in order to deliver increased reach in a WLAN network
The USB 2.0 adapter is available now. Netgear said the suggested retail price on the device is $89.99.
