Transimpedance amplifier

Applied Micro Circuits Corp. introduced a new transimpedance amplifier, a 3.3-V, 2.5-Gbps OC-48 WDM solution capable of addressing both WDM and TDM applications. The single-chip S3060 has 3 GHz of bandwidth, 280nA RMS of noise, and uses SiGe process technology from IBM. The S3060 offers 3K differential transimpedence, while reducing overall external component count and only requires a decoupling capacitor and photodetector. Input currents as high as 2.2mA can be amplified with low-duty cycle distortion, and low input noise allows signal detection down to 3.2µA (peak to peak) with a signal-to-noise ratio of 21.5 dB (allowing for BER < 1E-9).
