COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Avaya Inc. said it has signed a joint marketing agreement with Hewlett-Packard Co. to use ProLiant servers in developing Internet Protocol telephony products for small businesses.
Avaya, the Basking Ridge, N.J., spin-off of Lucent Technologies specializing in enterprise voice and data equipment, will reference the ProLiant ML310, ML330 and DL320 servers as preferred platforms for its Avaya IP Office software.
Avaya's software integrates telephony and data server functions, operating as either a circuit-switched PBX or IP PBX.
While Lucent and HP have partnered in the past, the deal represents the first major formal pact between HP and Avaya for small and medium businesses. The bundled systems, which can scale from two to 256 users, will be offered through distributors and VATS in North America.
The relationship will be expanded to cover global channels later this year, the partners said.
